Live Entry: Connecting Devices to Stockbook
If a COM port is not assigned, then Stockbook can't communicate with it, and you will need to contact your hardware manufacturer.
If you are using a USB-Serial adaptor to attach your hardware with a cable, you will need to ensure that the correct driver for that adaptor is loaded on your computer. Drivers may need to be downloaded. Please see below for some common downloads:****
If you connect the cable while you have internet access (or the CD that came with it), it should automatically install the driver. You might be able to download the driver from the manufacturers website too.
Step 1. Connect Device
Connected devices can be setup from three different parts of Stockbook:
► OPTION 1: Live Entry Window
i. Click on the Live Entry toolbar icon.
ii. Click on the Devices icon.
► OPTION 2:
From within Stockbook after clicking on the green "Start Live Entry", click on:
- Setup,
- Setup Devices.
► OPTION 3:
In Stockbook, click on the
- Electronic Id.,
- Setup.
In the Device Set Up / Discovery screen, you can start to configure your devices:
- Click on the drop-down arrow to select the device (Brand/Model) you wish to connect.
- If your device is discoverable, click on Find my reader/scales/barcode/drafter. This will search for the device.
Step 3. Device Discoverable or Non-Discoverable
- Stockbook will find your device if it is discoverable.
If it is discoverable, a green light will appear beside the device name. Status: Device found on applicable port COM9.

- If it is non-discoverable, a white light will remain beside the device name. Status: Device could not be found port COM9.

Step 4. Test Device
v. Once the test is working, close out of this test window and the Setup Devices window.
Step 5: Starting Live Entry
Open Live Entry and you will see that you should have green buttons next to your connected devices.
Click Start Live Entry.
You are now ready to use your devices for data entry in Stockbook Live Entry.
