Creating a Test System

Creating a Test System

Test Systems are used to create a safe environment (sandpit area) where you can try out a new idea or figure out what will happen if you do something in a certain way.  When you create a Test System, it takes a snapshot of your current data
Any changes you make in the Test System will have no effect on your actual data
Taking a backup is another way of securing your data up to a certain date/time, especially if something were to happen to your server device.  Regular backups are recommended for any enterprise. Backups can also be used to restore your data back to the time of the back up, in case of unwanted changes made post backup.
It is advisable to take a backup before you try anything new. If you don't need it, no worries but if things don't work out as planned, it is a quick and easy way to fix a mistake.

Step 1:  Ensure you are in the Main Menu on the Server

These options will not be found if you are not on the server.

Step 2:  Click on System and then Create Test System

If this hasn't already been set up then add the following destinations.  The backup and restore destinations must be in different files.
  1. Backup Destination: C:\Belvoir\Backups\Databases\
  2. Restore Destination: C:\Belvoir\Databases\
Once added, click on Create Test System.

Once it is complete, click on OK

Step 3:  Log out of your current Stockyard

Step 4: Select the newly created Test System to log into,

Select the user name and password and log-in.

Step 5: Make changes as needed and verify the outcome

You can create a test system as many times as you like, or even just to create a clean slate until you get what you need right, like a restore/reset button.
Go back into the Main System to create a new clean copy of your data, performing Steps1-4 again.  It will save over the old test system.

Step 6: Log back into the Main System to complete the data entry

Once you are happy with your outcome, screenshot the final version and leave the Test System to reperform the steps you have just practiced.
