Partial Identification Tag Search (Wildcard Search)

Partial Identification Tag Search (Wildcard Search)

Wildcard Search  is a search for an individual animal's Primary Id (Visual Id/Management Tag), when you do not know all the details of the tag number.
A wildcard is a character that may be used to represent one or more other characters.
Stockbook uses % and _
  • %  - may be used to specify any number of characters.
  • _  (underscore) - may be used to represent a single character (position), anywhere in the Primary Id.
The Wildcard search can only be completed through the Filter option.

Step 1. Filter

  • Select Filter  in the top right corner

A wild card search is conducted within the Primary Id. is like field

Option 1: Using the '%' (Percentage) character

This is used to search for a Primary Id. with variable beginnings, middles or endings.

For example: You want to search for an animal when you only know the first digit/letter and the last digit/letter of the Id.
Enter the first digit/letter of the animal (e.g. W), then a %  and the last digit/letter of the animal (e.g. 4) and Select OK.
This will filter for all animals starting with a 'W' and ending with a 4, with anything in between.

All animals starting with W and ending with 4 will be shown

Option 2: Search using '_'(underscore) character

This is used to search for an animal where you know how many letters and numbers there are within the Primary Id., and you know one or two of the exact letters/ numbers and their placement/order within the tag.

For Example: Enter the known digits/letters of the animal and use an underscore '_' to represent the missing digit/letter of the animal.
Filter for all animals containing a letter/number, then a '1', then a letter/number and ending with a '4'.

All animals containing a '1' as the second number and ending with a '4' will be shown.

You can narrow your search even further by using other selection criteria within the Animal Search Filter window e.g. Mob, Paddock, Group, Property, Sex.
