Partial Identification Tag Search (Wildcard Search)

Partial Identification Tag Search (Wildcard Search)

Wildcard Search  is a search for an individual animal's Visual Id/Management Tag, when you do not know all the details of the tag number.
A wildcard is a character that may be used to represent one or more other characters. Stockbook uses % and _.
  • %  - may be used to specify any number of characters.
  • _  (underscore) - may be used to represent a single character (position), anywhere in visual/management tag.
The Wildcard search can  only be completed through the Filter option.

Step 1. Click on the Animals toolbar option

  • Click on the Filter button in the top right corner

Step 2. A wild card search is conducted within the Primary Id. is like field

Option 1: Using the '%' character to search for an animals visual/management ID.

This is a great search when you want to search for visual/management ID, with variable beginnings, middles or endings.
  • For example: You want to search for an animal when you only know the first digit/letter of the animal, as well as the last digit/letter of the animal.
  • Within this Primary ID. is like field, enter the first digit/letter of the animal (e.g. 'W'), then a '%'  and the last digit/letter of the animal (e.g. '4').

This will filter for all animals starting with a 'W' and ending with a 4, with anything in between.

  • Click  OK  button

An example of the search results: (shows all animals starting with 'W' and ending with '4')

Option 2: Search using '_'(underscore) character for missing digits

Search for an animal where you know how many letters and numbers there are within the visual/ management  ID, and you know one or two of the exact letters/ numbers and their placement/order within the tag.

  • In the Primary ID. is like  field you can enter the known digits/letters of the animal and use an underscore '_' to represent the missing digit/letter of the animal.

  • For example: this is filtering for all animals containing a letter/number, then a '1', then a letter/number and ending with a '4'.

An example of the search results: shows in all the animals containing a '1' as the second number and ending with a '4'.

You can narrow your search even further by using other selection criteria within the Animal Search Filter window e.g. Mob, Paddock, Group, Property, Sex.
