Importing New Sheep Genetics Results Files

Important Information

Sheep Genetics has updated the way that they are accepting Stockbook data, additionally, they have changed the file type containing the updated Australian Sheep Breeding Values (ASBVs) and Indexes.

Importing the Results File into Stockbook

  1. Take a Backup of Stockbook
  2. Download the results file from the Sheep Genetics Portal 
  3. If you download the file multiple times make sure to remove the number download from the file name - other than removing the number in the case of multiple downloads, ensure you DO NOT rename the file, otherwise Stockbook will not recognise the file.


  1. Once the File name is correct, from within Stockbook go to File > Import Options > Sheep Genetics File 
  2. NB: If you have multiple flocks, the import process will work regardless of your current flock selection.
  3. Use the file explorer to locate the .zip file which contains the results
  4. Under Step 2, make sure to set your preferences as follows
NOTE** DO NOT Update sire and dam from SG file
























  1. Click 'Import File' to update your ASBV results
  2. Once the import has been initiated, the status bar will show you the progression of the update process.
    1. This may take quite a few minutes depending on the size and complexity of your Database and ASBV records.
  3. When complete a window will appear telling you how many records were updated. Click OK

  1. Locate an animal on the animals screen and click the "ASBV" tab at the bottom of the screen to see the updated ASBVs. This is deduced on when the last run occurred, in this example the run was on the 01/05/2022.
