Tag Number/Electronic Id./DNA Cross-Reference

Adding a DNA cross reference to an animal:

In addition to all the usual methods of locating animals via the Current Animal Listing, Stockbook also allows another option for you to search for animals by Electronic ID  (either via a reader or manually), or by Visual Management ID for any existing current animal in the database.
  1. Click on Electronic ID
  2. Click Tag/EID/DNA Cross Reference 
      

Note: 
This screen can be used to:
  1. Assign EID's or NLIS ID's to animals
  2.  Assign a DNA reference
They can be read in via a bar-code reader, or entered manually. 

Sorting the Animal List

  1. Click the Current or Archived animals checkbox to restrict the selection
The cross-reference list can be sorted by:
  1. Tag No. - Click on the header Tag No.  to sort in tag number order; or 
  2. Electronic ID. - Click on the header Electronic ID.  to sort in Electronic ID. order.

Finding Animals

  • If searching by Tag No., click on the Tag No. header and type the first few characters of the tag you are looking for in the "Search for tag" box.
  • If searching by Electronic Id., click on the Electronic Id. header and type the required Id. into the "search for Elect. ID" box.
  • If an EID Reader is attached to the computer (via a com port), click  "search for Elect. ID" box and allow the reader to find the animal for you.
     
 
Entering EID numbers
 If an EID is not already assigned to an animal, you can either:
  1. Type in the electronic ID; or
  2. Scan in the electronic ID via the Reader
To re-assign an EID to an animal that already has an electronic ID. assigned, blank that EID out first before reassigning it.
Electronic Id'd cannot be assigned to archived animals.
If a button marked F11 appears to the right of the cross-reference grid, this means that you need to manually request transmission of an electronic ID. from your reader to Stockbook. 

Click on the F11 button, or press the F11 key on the keyboard to effect this.

Entering DNA numbers

  • The DNA number can by typed in for a particular animal.
