Adding a DNA cross reference to an animal:
In addition to all the usual methods of locating animals via the Current Animal Listing, Stockbook also allows another option for you to search for animals by Electronic ID (EID) tag number (either via a reader or manually), or by Visual Management ID tag (VID) number for any existing current animal in the database.
Click on the Electronic ID. > Tag/EID/DNA Cross Reference menu option
This screen can also be used to assign EIDs or NLIS ID's to animals
For any animal, a DNA reference can also be assigned.
This can be read in via a bar-code reader, or entered manually.
Sorting the Animal List
The cross-reference list can be sorted into either:
Tag No. order (Click on the header Tag No. of that column to sort in tag number order)
Electronic ID. order (Click on the header Electronic ID. of that column to sort in Electronic ID. order)
Click the Current or Archived animals check box to further restrict your selection
Finding Animals
When the list has been sorted by Tag No., (VID), typing the first few characters of the tag you are looking for into the "Search for tag" box will cause Stockbook to dynamically search for the required animal.
When the list has been sorted by Electronic ID. (EID), you can manually type in the required Id. into the "search for Elect. ID" box, the program will dynamically search for the required animal.
If you have an EID Reader attached to the computer (via a com port), click onto the "search for Elect. ID" box and allow the reader to find the animal for you.
Entering EID numbers
Entering DNA numbers
If you wish to re-assign an EID to an animal that already has an electronic ID. assigned (replacement for lost tag), you would have to blank that EID out first before reassigning it.
