Connecting Devices to Stockbook

The following are general instructions on connecting a device to Stockbook.

Connecting a device via Bluetooth

Computer Settings

          Ensure the device is turned on and Bluetooth is enabled. 
Go to Bluetooth & Devices 



Scroll to Bluetooth devices discovery > select Advanced from the drop-down menu 



Scroll to More Bluetooth settings > open 
Under Discovery,  tick Allow Bluetooth devices to find this PC 



Select Add Device 
Select Bluetooth 



A  pair code will be needed. the code will be different depending on your device. 
Typically:      
Gallagher devices are 0000   
Tru-Test and Allflex devices are 1234
On occasion Default is the pair code. Usually for older devices.
Once the pair code is entered > Select connect 

Go back to More Bluetooth settings 
Select the COM Ports tab
Make note of the Outgoing Com Port Number for your device 


Close Bluetooth & Devices

In Stockbook  

Go to Electronic Id. Tab > Setup  
Select your device from the drop down menu 
Go to Manual Setup 
Select the COM port number that was noted in the Bluetooth setup process
 

Test your device 

Once your device has been discovered and is connected (shown by a green light), you can test it is working properly by clicking on the Test button

For Example, using an EID Tag Reader:
Click Test
Read an EID Tag
The EID number of that tag will appear in the Terminal Test box
If nothing appears in the Terminal Test box, the device (reader in this case) is not connected properly. 
 Now that your device is connected Select Live Entry 
      

Green indicates that your device is successfully connected

Red indicates that your device is not successfully connected, and you need to reconnect your device

            Selecting ‘Start Live Entry’ 

Connecting a device via a serial cable.

Plug the serial cable into the reader.
Plug the USB end of the serial cable into the computer USB port
When connected the reader make a 'beep' sound and vibration.

Go to Electronic Id. Tab > Setup  
Select your device from the drop down menu 
Open Windows Device Manager

Click the arrow next to Ports (COM & LPT)



Identify the COM port for the device
          Go to Manual Setup 
Select the COM port number that was Identified in the step above.
Select OK
The device will now be connected. 
Start Live Entry!
